Another great addition in one of my all time favorite series!! Landscape designer, Beth King survived an abusive husband and built a new life for herself with the help of Master Nolan, the strongest, most protective man she has ever known. As Beth and Nolan change their plans and pursue adoption, they're already imagining a baby girl in the nursery. But when two boys from the local domestic violence shelter see their mother taken to the hospital, they call Beth in a panic. Agreeing to care for them temporarily, Beth soon falls in love with the two adorable boys.
Now Master Nolan has a new problem. Heads-up, my dears: the story is heartwarming…yet heartbreaking due to children in a domestic violence situation. From the heartbreaking first chapter to the last I dont think I ever had a dry eye during this book. This was one emotional powerhouse of a story. But everything changes when the notorious Mistress Anne inadvertently reveals the caring heart concealed beneath her Domme armor. Sure, he knows she likes pretty boy slaves.
Craggy and rough. And six-fiv. Real Doms terrify her, so Summer plays with lightweights only. And only in the safety of her club, Dark Haven. But on Western Night, the tough cop who wins her in a sub-roping game is as powerful as they come.
Virgil's first taste of BDSM was disturbingly enticing. Hoping to burn out his interest, he visits an infamous San Francisco club, where he wins himself the prettiest little submissive he's ever seen. It was truly perfect and I am giving it 5 Huge Boundless Stars May 26, Kat Desi rated it really liked it Shelves: bdsm , erotic-romance. A heartwarming addition to the series. I especially enjoyed reading this book since Master Nolan is one of my favorite Masters.
Hell, who am I kidding?! I love how far this series has come and I continue to love each addition to the series. I can't wait to read Uzuri's book! Yet, I A heartwarming addition to the series. Yet, I also should say was tastefully done by the author. Perfection A perfect addition to the Shadowlands series. Heartbreakingly heartwarming. From beginning to end I loved this story. Master Nolan is so good at not letting problems build and getting everything out in the open. Beth tries to internalize but realizes when she needs help.
Sometimes revisiting couples can change how a reader feels about them but I feel they have grown but stayed the same. A great glimpse at the past couples and how everyone is there to help one another it's nice to read. Simply perfect. Jun 01, Sylvie rated it it was amazing. Awesome new addition to Cherise Sinclair's Shadowlands series.
We revisit Nolan and Beth who we first met in Breaking Free as they become foster parents to two young boys who have pretty much been screwed over by the system. It's about damn time they caught a break, and Beth and Nolanman are it.
At turns heartbreaking and heartwarming, Protecting His Own kept me crying my eyes out! But don't worry, it all works out okay. I did mention the heartwarming part, didn't I? Jun 01, Dawn rated it it was amazing Shelves: favorites , need-to-read-again. Amazing I cried so much!!
Some real heart stopping moment, loving the new dons. Jun 12, Janja rated it really liked it. Nolan and Beth were my fav couple in this series and to read thet thirs dreams comes true with two little boys is an absolute winner in my world. Great story from multiple POV and i loved it. Nov 07, ML Blair rated it it was amazing. Beff and Nolanman are the best! Dec 07, Katya rated it it was amazing Shelves: erotic-romance. This couple is a blast from the past in the Club Shadowlands series and one of my favorite books.
This was the first time I saw Cherise Sinclair add a little suspense to her books with a story inside and outside of the club. Beth survived an abusive husband and now has a successful landscaping business along with a dominant husband who is her whole world.
When Nolan gets talked into traveling out of the country to help build he owns his own contracting business homes, Beth is left alone to all the demons Nolan keeps at bay. The one thing she wants that is out of her reach is children. She feels like a failure that her body cannot give Nolan the children he wants, when he is perfectly fine adopting as many kids as she wants.
So Nolan comes home from the trip and knows right away something is wrong with the woman he loves. She's keeping something from him and that is unacceptable. Using his dominance, he chips away at what she is keeping from him, what she has done without him and even what her hidden emotions are doing to her.
Through his entire absence though, she continued to work at a women's shelter she set up with her late husband's money. A kind of karma for the abuse he heaped on her and using his money to help women in the same situation.
Beth has forged relationships with the women and children there, but especially two little boys in need of hugs. Their mother has completed her drug rehab so they are going home, but Beth knows it isn't going to be the best home and tries hard to get their case worker to pay attention. The story is told from multiple points of view. Beth is the driving force with Nolan a close second, but you also get to see in the mind of the oldest brother as his little heart deals with his druggie mother and her abusive boyfriend.
Nolan is tasked with protecting his submissive from a broken heart, but also in making it fuller. When the boys come to live with them as foster children, Nolan learns more about himself, his submissive and the strings that pull the heart. The story has mild BDSM scenes, but they are there.
Nolan and Beth are an established couple, but still struggle with normal things in marriage and wanting a family. I did feel the love scenes were muted as they should have been. The kids are emotionally damaged and Nolan and Beth do everything to keep a normal household for them as things play out.
This was a wonderful follow up story. You kind of know where it will go and how it will end up, but that's just fine. There is a lot of love that comes through this story and how just because you are kinky doesn't make you a bad person, but maybe someone who is more in touch with how emotions feel and how to detect when you need to do something different to handle a situation.
Beth is one strong woman for all she has dealt with and having her dreams crushed in a way. Nolan is the strong male that stands behind her an loves her for her not what she can give him.
The kids were an added bonus. This was a good addition to the series to see where characters we have loved have grown and found a life that is still exciting and will continue with lots of love and caring with a side of hot kink sex.
